28th – 30th March: Second Internal Tests for 2nd semester Arts and Commerce classes.

A compulsory free medical check-up for all 2nd semester students will be held on the 15th and 16th March. Trained medical personnel will conduct the check-ups in collaboration with the IQAC-Medical Cell, and every student will be issued a personal medical/health card. Students are informed to report for these medicals during their free periods on either of these two days.

The first Internal Tests for the second semester will be held between the 2nd and 6th February, 2012 as per following schedule.

All second semester Arts and Commerce students are hereby informed to attend a Teachers’ – Students’ Meeting on Monday the 14th November at 10am in Room #701. This will be compulsory.

All students who had taken admission for the 1st semester may join classes for the second semester which will begin on the 14th November as per UGC rules.

After several months of inactivity due to technical problems, the college website now has a beautiful new layout. We hope to come up with updates on a much more regular basis. As they say in show biz, watch this space!

Dr. Sangkima was recently appointed the new college Principal by the Mizoram Government.

Dr. Sangkima (b. 1952) joined Aizawl College in September 1977 as a lecturer in the dept. of History. In 1986, he received a Ph.D. from Gauhati University for his thesis on “Society and Social Change in Mizoram (1890 – 1947): a Historical Study.” In April 2002, he was appointed Principal of Aizawl West College where he worked for nine years. On the 13th April 2011, he joined Government Aizawl College as Principal. A founder member of the Mizo History Association, Dr. Sangkima has several academic publications including five scholarly books on Mizo history.

The former Principal, Dr. L.N.Tluangi is now with the IQAC Cell at the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education.

There are also two new additions to the teaching faculty. Dr. Chawngsailova from Kolasib College and Mr. Robert Laltinchhawna from Serchhip College were recently posted here following the retirements of Mrs. Laltanpuii (Political Science) and Mr. Lalthlanliana (History).

Following the NAAC Peer team visit last month, the Executive Committee has reaccreditated the college Grade B with a CGPA score of 2.54. It is a creditable grade considering the fact that the college has practically no campus to speak of. It is hoped that the new grade will encourage the college to grow in all areas.
